SPECIALTIES
My style is warm and relational. I often stress to my clients that a major source of happiness is the relationships in our lives. I am likely to encourage you either to work on your existing relationships or to create new ones. You will experience a new sense of purpose and meaning as a result.

I will also provide referrals, as needed, to other mental health professionals, medical providers, and to all kinds of people whom you might benefit from knowing. I work hard at networking and maintaining a database of people I know in order to make these referrals to you. I also enjoy making referrals to mental health professionals if my clients need another treatment modality or if someone in your family could benefit from therapy.

Couples Therapy:
I work with couples to identify the subtle yet powerful stresses that impact their relationships on a daily basis.

Whether these stresses take the form of a breakdown in communication, financial or family problems, or infidelity, I will help you to foster greater communication so that resentments diminish and the bond between you becomes even stronger.

I might use specific exercises geared towards listening to each other, or I might have each partner focus on their own feelings and responses to each other.

I will encourage you to spend leisure time together and may assign work for you to do as a couple between visits.

For couples contemplating a break-up, I will work with you to determine the best course of action for the two of you. If you decide to end the relationship, I will have you focus on ending the relationship as productively as possible.

Group Therapy and Support Groups:
I have led a variety of ongoing psychotherapy groups, support groups, psycho-educational groups, and supervision groups, have run a group program in a mental health facility, and have developed various group formats during the past 25 years. I have also consulted with human service agencies on groups and taught at group psychotherapy conferences internationally.

I lead psychotherapy groups that are general in nature and that focus on the interpersonal issues between people. I lead support groups that focus on specific topics for which people require support. Psycho-educational groups, in contrast, offer a combination of support and information regarding the topic of the group.

I lead each type of group by providing a safe yet communicative atmosphere that is open and accepting. I tend to be interactive while leading groups and try to generate a deep level of respect among participants. People often comment on how their group feels like being with an ideal family.

The experiences from being in a group will provide you with increased awareness in your interactions with others so that your relationships in your day-to-day life will improve significantly.
